Morning Mercies
“Every sunrise is a quiet reminder that God's faithfulness begins again.”
Today's verse
“They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.”
Lamentations 3:23
Lamentations is not a cheerful book. It was written in the ruins of Jerusalem by someone who had watched everything fall apart. And yet, tucked in the middle of the grief, is one of the most hopeful sentences in Scripture: His mercies are new every morning.
Notice that the writer does not say the circumstances are new. The city is still in ruins. What is new is the mercy — the fresh supply of God's kindness for a day that has not happened yet.
You may be carrying yesterday into today: a failure, a harsh word, a worry that kept you up. Gratitude is not pretending those things are not real. It is choosing to notice that alongside them, this morning, mercy arrived on time.
